This paper describes microfinance’s intangible benefits, by reviewing the literature and exploring and synthesising lessons from conflicts in nine countries in Asia and the Pacific, with emphasis on microfinance experiments in Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea (Bougainville), Sri Lanka and Timor Leste.
