However, his conclusions are too stark in a number of respects.

Experience to date suggests that the Pacific is not as different from the rest of the world as Gregory suggests, and that there is a useful role for microfinance in facilitating economic development and reducing poverty in the Pacific, especially in and around the larger centres.
