Outcomes of the 2001 APEC Summit, 2001
APEC has proposed concerted action by members to take up the challenge of securing the benefits of the new economy for all citizens. APEC Leaders are also concerned to demonstrate the benefits of globalisation to their political constituencies. Among other things this means giving attention to the development of microfinance and microenterprises. In many APEC economies microenterprises provide the majority of people with their livelihoods. APEC’s new direction brings together two of FDC’s principal interests, microfinance and the processes of economic and technical cooperation.
