Microfinance development programs have had a significant effect on the lives of their women clients by enabling them to access financial services which they would otherwise have been unable to obtain. There are a range of issues which microfinance program designers need to understand, and there are a number of strategies which may be applied, to ensure that these issues are addressed so that the potential for women to be empowered at more than just an economic level is achieved.
