Global Knowledge Partnership Private Sector Engagement, 2007

The research results revealed that there are different ways a company can integrate development initiatives into their business. It can be done through:

i) a dedicated CSR program,

ii) a not-for-profit organisation/foundation established by the company; or iii) the core business of the company that contributes positively to development outcomes.

Larger companies such as IBM, Intel and Dell are more likely to have a CSR program as well as to provide more cash donations and grants than smaller companies. However, smaller entities make valuable contributions through the development of products with pro-poor development outcomes.

Examples of such companies are FINO in India and WIZZIT Bank in South Africa.
