
Jeff Liew
Financial Inclusion Specialist
Jeff has 30 years of policy design and programme execution experience in the area of inclusive growth – with strong technical expertise in sustainable livelihoods, private sector development, women’s economic empowerment and inclusive finance.
He served as a senior technical advisor to UNDP across these disciplines in various programmes. In the 10 years leading up to 2016, he co-managed the UNCDF/UNDP $65 million fund to build capacity and incentivize innovation in digital financial services, financial education and regulatory modernization in the Pacific region. During this period the programme supported 19 successful deployments benefiting more than 1.5 million underserved clients and mainstreamed financial inclusion and financial literacy strategies in 7 countries.
Jeff is a human-centric design practitioner with experience in designing responsive financial products and client empowerment services – especially for women and youth. He has a deep understanding of the financial behaviour and aspirations of vulnerable communities.
He currently works out of Malaysia where he is an active mentor and advisor in several fintech and startup accelerators. He was a member of the UNCDF team that established the Inclusive Digital Finance Innovation Hub in Malaysia in 2017 and coordinated it’s first Pacific-ASEAN Inclusive Finance Challenge in 2019.
Jeff brings to FDC considerable policy and programme level expertise; including a vast network of public and private sector actors working in the space of digital and inclusive economic growth.
